Virtual Musicality Workshop

Tap is a dance form, but also music. Therefore the dancer needs to also be a musician.

Class Setting: Virtual Group. Potential to book Adam for an in person workshop, ask upon inquiry.

Level: All levels welcome. No tap shoes required.

As part of my own growth as a tap dancer, I knew I needed to have a better understanding of jazz music. It was out of that desire to learn that this workshop was created.

Emily moderates this conversation bridging the gap between tap dancers and professional jazz musician Adam Price. The workshop covers the basics of jazz theory, improvisation within the jazz structure. Even if you don’t plan to hop in on a jazz jam, it will improve your improvisation, musicality and counting regardless of what music you dance to.

Adam Price has traveled the world playing jazz music. He has played cruise ships, tours with his own combo and with others, and various albums. He has a wealth of knowledge that he loves to share. He is a master teacher and is available for booking through his site. Follow his socials HERE.

What the workshop entails:

  • Mini jazz theory lesson.

  • Listening & counting practice.

  • Handouts with “cheat sheet” jazz forms, lists of tunes, and additional resources.

  • Q&A with Adam on jazz improvisation.

  • Improvisation rounds if time allows.

  • Different jazz forms & how to hear/recognize them.

  • How to improvise within the forms.

  • Modifiers that happen within songs (intros/trading/vamps/outros/etc).

  • Jam session etiquette.

  • Talking about the music (like a musician).
